Sites Technician III

The Data Center Sites Technician III fully meets all the requirements for a Sites Technician II, and also meets three additional requirements: 1) Must be certified to perform Off Rack Disk Scrubs 2) Has established one or more areas of expertise (Networking, SAN, other), and 3) Has demonstrated an ability to train other technicians. The Sites Technician III is able to perform any task in either area without supervision, and is able to lead projects within the Sites team.

The Data Center Sites Technician III installs, moves, and de-commissions hardware including cabinets, shelves, power strips, rails, fiber/copper/other cables and cable management, servers, storage, printers, and other devices in the Data Center. The technician will confirm and label devices, rack and cables. The technician will work in a standard ticketing system, providing clear, timely, and appropriate customer communications.

The technician performs these activities under the direction of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Program Policies, Safety Policies, and Security Policies, meeting requirements for quality and quantity of work. The technician is responsible for the data integrity of all assets on the Data Center floor. The technician responds to trouble situations within the Data Center and will participate in an On Call rotation.

Required Skills:

• Physically assist in moving and racking equipment as directed for special projects
• Able to safely lift and move a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
• High level of written and oral fluency in English
• Must provide own transportation to work locations
• Must be able to respond to any On-Call request within 1 hour or as directed
• Able to update asset management data as required using scanners
• Can effectively utilize the ticket management process
• Able to Install/De-Install/Maintain servers, switches, routers, storage and other hardware
• Able to cable systems (power/copper/fiber/other) correctly based on ticket requirements
• Can communicate effectively in tickets, emails, to customers, management, and peers
• Must work effectively with the other Milestone staff, and Milestone customers
• Must be able to multi-task. Must be able to adapt to changing priorities.

• Able to prioritize and adapt to changing conditions or circumstances.
• Able to operate material handling equipment - pallet jacks and forklifts if certified
• Experience with MS Office tools is desired
• Must be able to train other technicians
• Certified in Disk Scrub services
• Has at least one area of expertise (Networking, SAN, other)

Required Experience:

• 3+ years Rack and Stack experience
• Working knowledge of one or more ticketing systems. Remedy preferred.
• Working knowledge of computer hardware
• Working knowledge of networking components and infrastructures
• Knowledgeable in Data center practices (i.e. basic fault tolerance, cable routing, calculating power usage)
• Strong cable management skills and experience running fiber and copper in a data center.
• Understand the electrical, HVAC, and bandwidth infrastructures of the data center
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Certifications in Data Center technologies are desired
